About Ayang
Ayang Trust, founded in 2017 in Majuli, Assam, began with The Hummingbird School, offering education to tribal and underserved children. It later expanded to support flood-affected communities through livelihood programs for landless women farmers and artisans, as well as Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) initiatives. Operating in Majuli and two districts of Arunachal Pradesh, Ayang, meaning “love” in the Mising language, continues its mission across Northeast India.
Vision
A world where everyone has a choice to live a life of love, dignity and purpose irrespective of conditions at birth.
Areas of Partnership
Ayang Trust, in partnership with the H T Parekh Foundation, launched Doorbeen to promote a reading culture and bridge access to quality books in Majuli’s villages. The project supports diverse communities, including Assamese and tribal groups like Mising and Deori, by creating community-led libraries and developing contextually relevant children’s literature in Assamese and Mising.
The initiative involves monthly meetings, residential training, and quarterly Library Management Committee (LMC) gatherings to address challenges and plan activities. Cultural events foster community engagement. Currently, 38 libraries across Majuli house over 600 books, serving as learning hubs and strengthening community bonds.
